Hay-on-Wye is a popular market town on the River Wye, sitting on the border between England and Wales, at the foot of The Black Mountains. Overlooked by the fascinating 11thc. Castle, the town has a wealth of interesting old buildings and the "largest second-hand bookshop in the world" in the old cinema- one of the 30 major antiquarian bookshops, each with their own speciality. Hay-on-Wye hosts the world famous Literary Festival with a great many famous literary figures taking the stage (Book early for the Festival). Brecon 17 miles, Hereford 21 miles.

Glasbury, situated on the River Wye, has an excellent Bistro/Cafe, shop, garage, a Canoe Centre, pony trekking and outdoor pursuits centre. The river is wide at this point and there is a long grassy bank, which is used for swimming, picnics, and boating.

Bredwardine also located along the River Wye is a charming spot for a picnic or a riverside walk.

Talgarth has retained a very friendly village atmosphere. On the way up to the Black Mountains are the picturesque Pwll-y-Wrach waterfalls and a nature reserve.

Clyro, a few miles from Hay-on-Wye and has lovely views over to The Black Mountains.

Three Cocks has restaurants and easy access to the Black Mountains via FELINDRE.

Kington with its castle stands just slightly to the north of this very interesting and diverse small market town village on the Welsh Borders-a very good village to stay if you are walking Offa's Dyke with the Visitor Centre nearby.

Dorstone and The Golden Valley, with such an evocative name, is a delightful and secluded valley. At the southern end of the valley, in the village of Abbey Dore is a Cistercian 12th Century Abbey.
